ATLANTA - Nov. 1, 2019 - PRLog -- he Georgia State Medical Association and The Atlanta Medical Association will host "Healthcare's Role in Combating Human Trafficking" symposium on Saturday, November 2, 2019, 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM, at the Morehouse School of Medicine, National Center for Primary Care, 720 Westview Dr., SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.

The featured keynote speaker is Dr. Sharon Cooper, a forensics and developmental pediatrician from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Several experts and thought leaders in the space will serve as guest panelists throughout the Symposium.  Georgia Public Broadcasting's Capitol Correspondent and veteran Atlanta reporter, Donna Lowry is the panel moderator.

This community forum will bring together over 400 physicians, midlevel providers, nurses, hospital and clinic professionals, advocates and business leaders from across the State. This necessary and important dialogue about human sex trafficking, and the role our healthcare professionals play in helping victims receive the necessary care and resources they need to escape this fast-growing criminal industry, is lacking in our community. Studies show that most human trafficking victims have entered the healthcare system at least once during victimization. Many of them leave or are discharged without being recognized.
