By: Global Scholars Academy The block party will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a kick off rally featuring remarks from community leaders and event partners and flow into FREE, family-fun activities, arts and crafts, music, food and tree planting! The event kicks off a partnership with TreesDurham in support of GSA's outdoor education initiatives, a pillar of our STEAM curriculum, and in contribution to building and sustaining the tree canopy in Durham. TreesDurham, who will sponsor the new trees, is focused on making sure the community understands the value of trees and the health benefits, wealth impact, and overall happiness they can deliver with green technology. GSA is intentional about supplementing our curriculum with project-based learning experiences to drive greater understanding of classroom lectures, but also to ignite curiosity and help our students develop skills that will prepare them for success in a dynamic global economy. ### At Global Scholars Academy, our mission is to improve educational outcomes and overall life chances of young people at the greatest risk of failure academically and in other walks of life due to significant social, economic, and educational challenges. Using an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to education, we encourage our students to forge connections between academics and their personal lives out in world at large. Regardless of a student's socio-economic circumstance, we believe a high-quality education should give students the ability to unlock their power for personal achievement. http://www.globalscholarsacademy.org. At TreesDurham our mission is TREES FOR ALL. All Durham residents deserve a socially just, healthy, and sustainable urban forest. Living in a neighborhood full of trees decreases exposure to air pollution, increases health, reduces electric costs, and increases community cohesion. We provide education and outreach around trees and build relationships for tree friendly policies, partnering with residents, companies, non-profits and the City and County of Durham. We organize and support planting events, focusing on making trees accessible to diverse communities. http://www.treesdurham.org. End
