By: Born To Read Inc Keynote speaker for this fundraising event to benefit Born To Read, Inc. will be Dr. Rebecca Dwight Bruff, author of Trouble The Water Inspired by the true story of an unsung American hero, Robert Smalls. "We are excited to present the Spring Luncheon in another centrally-located venue, Hampton Hall, stated Janie Ephland, executive director. "Due to the popularity of our author luncheons, Hampton Hall will enable us to add more seating!" She continued, "Born To Read is thrilled to have Rebecca Dwight Bruff as our Keynote Speaker." RSVP is required due to limited seating. Tickets are $35.00 per person prepaid or payable at the door and includes program and lunch. She was so captivated that she left her job and moved across the country to research and write this novel. Bruff earned her bachelor's degree in education (Texas A&M) and Master and Doctorate degrees in theology (Southern Methodist University). An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, she served several Dallas area congregations, focusing on spiritual formation and cross-cultural partnerships. In 2017, she was a scholarship recipient for the prestigious Key West Literary Seminar. She now serves part time at the Carteret Street United Methodist Church and volunteers at the Pat Conroy Literary Center in Beaufort, South Carolina. She's published non-fiction, plays a little tennis, travels when she can, and loves life in the lowcountry with her husband and an exuberant golden retriever.
