Inaction speaks louder than words

READING, Mass. - Feb. 12, 2020 - PRLog -- During Tuesday night's Select Board meeting, the Town Manager shared information on the detailed process to finding a Chief of Police. "As a candidate and town meeting member, I'm concerned with the delay." Carlo Bacci stated in regards to the search which formally started in August. "Last night was a glaring example of mistrust. Elected officials don't require public input on every decision just as the Superintendent is in charge of the day to day and the School Committee's job is to oversee him. We elect people to work in the best interest of the community, the entire community."

"We all make mistakes, but this was more than a mistake last night." It was noted one Select Board member John Halsey has been the public safety liaison for his entire 2 terms. Last night was his last Select Board meeting as he's decided to retire. The general consensus was he should be allowed to vote, however with a motive to delay until after the election, that would be made impossible.  "I was glad to hear Anne Landry speak on John's behalf and urge the Board to make this the 'highest priority' and be voted on before the election."

The Reading Police Officers work to  maintain a safe community, the inaction of appointing a Police Chief is hindering and causing stress to the Police force.

There's no place for petty politics in Town Government.
