Urban League WIC Program Celebrates National Nutrition Month

LAS VEGAS - March 3, 2020 - PRLog -- On any given day, the Urban League WIC nutrition program supports nearly 4,000 single individuals and families throughout Southern Nevada in maintaining healthy eating habits.

With March 2020 being designated National Nutrition Month by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Urban League's WIC program stands out as a premier source for educating moms and dads on healthy lifestyle alternatives year-round.

         "We want mothers and fathers to know that our WIC services are available 24/7, and our counselors are eager to share information on healthy eating habits not only during National Nutrition Month this March but on an ongoing basis throughout the year," Tim Perez, Director of Nutrition Education Centers for Urban League WIC.

         "Our office is a one-stop resource that every new parent needs to develop and maintain healthy eating habits. We are dedicated to delivering 5-star customer service."

The Urban League's Nutrition Education Team, for example, provides ongoing nutritional education to parents, so they can make better choices and lead healthier lifestyles. Registered dieticians develop individual nutritional-care plans for families that includes group counseling development and curriculums such as "Participant Centered Services" ensuring families adhere to the best eating habits.

         Pregnant women are encouraged to enroll anytime in WIC programs to obtain proper education counseling, nutritional supplemental food advice and referral services to other programs in the community, such as food banks and immunization advice, medical and dental services.

WIC also educates new parents on the benefits of breastfeeding. Research shows that breastfed babies have fewer colds and ear infections. The nutrients in breast milk help build a baby's brain and immune system. Breast milk is always the right temperature. Breastfeeding also builds a closer bond between parents and their babies.
