WNBA Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes Hosts Live Discussion #OurBlackYouthMatters on Juneteenth

ATLANTA - June 17, 2020 - PRLog -- With the recent events happening in our country involving racism, and the Black Lives Matter movement, WNBA Hall of Famer, Olympian, Champion and Philanthropist Sheryl Swoopes is hosting her first ever Instagram Live Discussion on the importance of education for the African American youth. The topic will be "Why educating our black youth is so important? " taking place Juneteenth, June 19th at 6 p.m. Central Standard Time.

"We chose to have the conversation on this specific date because Juneteenth is the day we celebrate our freedom from slavery. So what better time than now to have this discussion and do it on that day," says Sheryl Swoopes.

During this Instagram Live, Sheryl Swoopes will dive into her passion for African American history, her love for helping African American youth connect with their identity and background, and the reason for her non-profit organization, Back to Our Roots. Back to Our Roots' (BTOR) mission is to help educate today's African American youth on their ancestral heritage. "The reason why I created BTOR is because it is near and dear to my heart. I'm very passionate about this organization because in today's society, all youth, African Americans in particular, are struggling with their identity," Swoopes told Heavy Magazine.

Swoopes' goal is to raise awareness for the importance of educating our black youth while raising funds to give back to them within her non-profit Back to Our Roots. This Instagram Live will be an open discussion and she strongly encourages all to attend and engage regardless of race or color. During this Instagram Live, Sheryl Swoopes will be auctioning off her autographed items including her signature shoes, The Air Swoopes, her jerseys and more in an effort to raise funds for Back to Our Roots to support African American youth.
