![]() A Welcome New Approach to Treating Chronic PainMedical startup sets its sights on improving outcomes for treatment of chronic pain.
The United States has a National Pain Strategy recognizing the significance of pain as a public health problem and to explore interventions. Several recommendations arose which are summarized below:
SUN Pain Institute, a medical startup in Savannah, Georgia, is poised to address this national health crisis. Their mission is to continuously improve practices by offering a higher-quality, multimodal approach to assessment, treatment and pain care than is currently available. They intend to set the standard for HICP treatment. A pair of entrepreneurs, John P. George, MD and Doris K. Cope, MD, share a passion for people and pain relief. Both of them share a common beginning at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. George is also one of the founders of Optim Orthopedics. Dr. George is well known in the Savannah area for his over 30 years of practice and dedication to orthopedic care. Dr. Cope most recently treated private patients in Annapolis, MD including many notable political, civic and military leaders. She also directed a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, training over 120 pain physicians. Dr. Cope brings over thirty years of experience to the Savannah medical community and her ideal of patient care aligns with the SUN Pain Institute (SPI) mission. As an anesthesiologist, Dr. Cope is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the field of pain treatment. SPI fills a much-needed void addressing symptoms associated with cervical, lumbar, and pelvic pain for both men and women. In addition, they treat neuropathic, visceral and cancer pain, and complex reflex sympathetically medicated pain. Dr. Cope claims she treats the pain that other doctors don't typically treat. The Savannah community will benefit greatly from this new model of HICP care. In the near future, they also plan to announce their medical partnerships as well as special procedures using cutting-edge technology currently not offered in Savannah. SUN Pain Institute started seeing new patients in mid-June and the momentum is growing. Appointments are available and a strict adherence to COVID 19 sanitary protocols are in place to protect the health of all patients and practitioners. SUN Pain Institute is for people who want to receive the very best in personalized pain care to restore a more active life. Headquartered in Savannah, GA, SUN Pain Institute specializes in multimodal, high-quality pain assessment, treatment and continuing care utilizing the latest medical technologies and research.
