The San Francisco Black Film Festival 2020, held virtually June 18 - August 30th shares the Durban FilmMart and winners.  The Durban FilmMart held virtually September 4-13, from Durban South Africa, today announced it's the 2020 Winners.

News Release:  Durban FilmMart Announces 2020 Project Award-winners

Durban, South Africa-After 10 days packed with virtual panel discussions, conversations, presentations, pitches, and meetings, the 11th Durban FilmMart ended on a high with the announcement of the 2020 Official Awards for Projects on Sunday, 13 September.

A total of 64 projects were selected to participate at the DFM, Africa's premier co-production and finance market.  These included: 32 official fiction and documentary projects, 26 Talents Durban projects and 6 Jumpstart projects.

"We were impressed by the high quality of project submissions that were pitched to the various broadcasters, financiers, investors, markets and producers at our first virtual edition," says Mandisa Zitha, Chairperson of the Board of the Durban FilmMart Institute. "What is coming through in these projects is an overall boldness, and willingness of filmmakers to push the boundaries of their uniquely African stories. We are delighted that through our partners and funders that some of these film projects will be given the opportunity to develop further through some very generous grants and awards provided." The San Francisco Black Film Festival (www.sfbff.org) and the Durban FilmMart cross-promoted their programs.  From DFM 2020 participating in the San Francisco Black Film Festival Live Talk @SFBFF "Art and Trade in Africa" to New York City based Taheim Bryan, writer, co-director and producer of "Equal Standard, Oakland International Film Festival Director and Founder David Roach, and other San Francisco Black Film Festival guests being credentialed to attend the Durban FilmMart, the first-time collaboration opened up new opportunities for filmmakers.

Prior to the sudden and unexpected death of festival co-director Kali O'Ray on August 7th, Kali O'Ray and his wife co-director Katera Crossley were pleased to collaborate with the Durban FilmMart and also the Durban International Film Festival, September 10-20, because of their missions and dedication to the film industry and promoting African content.
