A local community activist, Atkins was quoted in the article saying, "I felt like his statement was very stereotypical and is contributing to a hateful narrative," Atkins said in an interview. "I don't know if boycotting his book will create unity, but I know that I would rather put books and information in front of the people that I serve that better reflect them." Kiyosaki's tweet was deleted with a formal statement from his company stating that he had not intended to offend anyone. "I think it's an important topic, and we need to keep talking about injustices and taking a stand when comments like these are made," said Atkins. "It was exciting to be a part of the Washington Post article, but so many more minorities need voices." Atkins founded FED UP Movement in 2012. The Movement was created to organize her community and encourage civic engagement while focusing on causes such as the environment, children, education, and community. "The goal of FED UP Movement is to educate and empower urban youth to better themselves, and that all starts with voicing your opinions and standing up against injustice," said Atkins.
