ESCI Launches the Supply Chain Carbon Council

DUBLIN - Jan. 4, 2021 - PRLog -- The European Supply Chain Institute (http://www.escinst.org/) has launched the Supply Chain Carbon Council. The council will be a Thought Leadership initiative addressing how we can further transform supply chain operations and enhance environmental performance both for the manufacturer but also their suppliers.

Although a lot of work has already been done, we are nowhere near the level of transparency and carbon emissions reduction required if we are to achieve the climate goals set out by legislators. Sustainability needs to be fully integrated into supply chain operations and additional efforts to reduce carbon emissions and the negative climate impact are becoming increasingly important. Financial decisions play an important role for any organisations decision making but we also need to factor in not only the economic viability but also social and environmental concerns.

To improve supply chain sustainability, you firstly need to have visibility of it. Technology will pay an increasingly important role in transforming supply chain sustainability from transparency, tracking & tracing, carbon measurement, management, offsetting and we will be analysing the solutions and green technologies available now that the supply chain can integrate into their operations. New technologies such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence will play an important role in providing more trust and improve visibility. Green/Sustainable Finance is another important development that links finance to yours and your suppliers ESG performance and helps to focus attention on the true environmental lifecycle of products from raw materials, manufacturing to distribution.

"There is a direct link between Digital Transformation and Sustainability and it is vital that all parties in the supply chain play their role in providing full transparency when it comes to their Environmental, Social and Governance performance. Visibility of emissions is key to managing them and technology will play an increasingly important role in gathering and reporting environmental data of a product from raw materials, manufacturing and distribution."
