As a member of the IFEH, EHA supports the WFPHA international coalition

EHA supports the Coalition of International NGOs call for equitable access to vaccines and treatment during the COVID19 Pandemic

BRISBANE, Australia - March 9, 2021 - PRLog -- Environmental Health Australia extends our full support to the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA) for their recently formed international coalition for equitable access to vaccines during the COVID19 pandemic.

The WFPHA hosted a historic meeting on February 11th 2021 to initiate a coalition of international NGO leaders who agreed to work together to build and sustain equity in global public health, with a focus on development, distribution, and delivery of vaccines.

"Countries can now have the ability to control severe symptoms of COVID19 with the successful development of a number of vaccines. This enables primary health services in each country to recover and dramatically reduces COVID19 deaths. The capacity of vaccines to prevent the spread of the virus is less clear at this stage. The ability of every country to implement a broad scale programme of vaccinations and move toward herd immunity, is the best hope to suppress the pandemic.  This will enable freer movement between countries and the ability for economies to recover. But as a global community vaccine distribution needs to be happening in all countries simultaneously", says EHA National President, Mr Philip Swain.

Vaccine equity has been prioritised by the World Health Organisation and many organisations have begun implementing steps to address and spread awareness of COVID19 vaccine equity. EHA agrees that a greater global effort is needed to strengthen the collective public health responses to inequity, which like COVID19, works beyond country borders both during the pandemic and in the years of recovery to follow.

Environmental Health Australia (EHA) is the peak environmental health professional organisation in Australia, advocating environmental health issues since 1920. EHA members are professionals working within local, state and federal government as well as the Australian Defence Force, private industry and academia in areas of environmental health education, policy, scientific research and law enforcement.
