By: Thiel College For 26 years, the Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma has been fundraising thousands of dollars riding a 25-foot long metal see-saw from noon Thursday until noon Sunday. They will be collecting money at the intersection for the Military Heroes Campaign. Students and members of the Thiel College community are welcome to ride the see-saw during the three-day event. "The brothers are so excited to get the opportunity to raise money for our Military Heroes," said Kappa Sigma chapter president Charlie Lichtenwalter '22. "This event is normally held in the fall, but the pandemic has caused us to shift our tradition a little bit. Thankfully, Pennsylvania has been lifting restrictions enough that it is safe for us to hold our philanthropy event." Kappa Sigma created the Military Heroes Campaign in 2007. The campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated over $1 million to non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat. Thiel College is a Yellow Ribbon institution. The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistances Act of 2008. "We hope to get campus and the Greenville community to rally behind this important cause. Hopefully, we will be able to maintain the tradition next year of holding this event in the fall," Lichtenwalter said. For the health and safety of the Thiel College Community, this event is being planned in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines, which include reduced attendance, hygiene recommendations, social distancing and the use of masks regardless of vaccine status.
