Lackawanna Memories – A Mid-Twentieth-Century Diary of a Great American RailroadPortland, Maine author J R Canfield pens a tribute to his railroad career.
This book does not pretend to be a corporate history and certainly not the author's personal autobiography. Besides Lackawanna Memories, Canfield also recently published another railroad tribute: Life's Lessons Learned. There comes a time when most still-literate octogenarians feel the desire to amuse, educate or perhaps bore their descendants and neighbors with the many lessons of experience they have personally suffered. Fortunately or sadly – depending on the reader's level of tolerance – this author is no exception. Thus we have Life's Lessons Learned, the tale of an unrepentant railroad enthusiast and amateur psychologist's adventures with family, acquaintances and colleagues whose names have been altered in many instances to protect the guilty and the outrageous. Canfield has also authored seven other books of rail photography for Morning Sun Books, Inc. J R Canfield was born and raised in northern New Jersey and graduated from the Bloomfield, N.J. High School. His interest in fiction writing was awakened when he won a nationwide short story contest for ninth graders. (Actually he came in second but the original winner was disqualified.) Canfield's writing skills have not been limited to railroads. He is also a prodigious author of mystery books. These include: The Vigilantes : How to Solve a Perfect Murder The Triangle - Rough Justice - Windbrooke's War, The Lodge - The Disillusioning, Murder x3, The Boardman Ridgeley Murders - Return to Bobcat Mountain, Tales of an Unlikely Sleuth, and The Bobcat Mountain Murders - A Hamilton Smith Mystery. J R Canfield's railroad and mystery books are distributed by Pathway Book Service and Ingram Book Company. Readers can purchase copies of Lackawanna Memories on Amazon, B&N.com, Amazon Kindle and at other booksellers.
