Newly Minted Restaurateurs Frederick, Shawn And Marques Launch Chx Concept In New Uptown Location Despite PandemicAmidst a Global Pandemic and National Social Unrest, the Gumbo Group Leadership Team keeps its eye on Growth with the Introduction of their CHX Fast Casual Concept
It only takes a few minutes of listening to these energetic and optimistic culinary entrepreneurs to catch the excitement about CHX's first permanent location in Minneapolis just in time for Summer 2021. With their home-grown "fan army" on Instagram with a name that beckons you to GETCHX @CHXMSP, the Twin Cities will be able to keep their finger on the pulse of their new restaurant in the Uptown Minneapolis neighborhood. If you haven't heard of CHX yet, it likely means you don't live in the Uptown neighborhood where it was born last summer coincidentally amidst the social unrest sparked here in Minneapolis. CHX co-founder, Marques Johnson shares an interesting anecdote of their origin story, "I stumbled upon the opportunity for our original walk-up window in Uptown. It was like a lightning bolt struck that this could be a great way for us to test the market interest of our CHX concept, I couldn't wait to tell the guys what I had found!" The pandemic has been devastating to the restaurant industry, but the quick service subcategory has had the opposite experience. With drive-thrus and walk-ups available to keep their staff and customers safe with Covid-19 protocols, commonly paired with booming delivery services, many quick service restaurants have been fortunate to maintain their business according to numerous industry sources. If you are wondering about the CHX menu, co-founder Frederick Huballa provides the insight, "Initially we are focusing on our chicken tenders-centric menu with a few key sides that are great compliments our secret sauce, crinkle fries, the best honey butter biscuit you've ever had and refreshing limeade. Of course, they are all our own "secret recipes" so that we can share the next great chicken tender concept with communities in all 50 states. Once we have our market truly established, we will begin to introduce the menu items we are developing to complement and grow our current menu." CHX will operate like a local family-owned neighborhood restaurant focused on an amazing food product and the quality of their employee's work experience. Building and being a part of their community is critical to these owners who are continually focused on how they can invest their time and talents to better themselves and their futures. They see this as a choice and attainable for so many who live here that just need to know more about how to achieve what is next even during a time when restaurants sacrifice so much trying to keep the doors open. CHX operations lead and co-founder, Shawn Edwards has his finger on the pulse of the neighborhood as he reaches out looking for service oriented young people who want to work their way up through a growing foodservice operation. "I meet so many great kids that will be able to provide the superior customer service experience that we want our customers to have and learn the business in a supportive and educational culture that understands where they come from." Part of their community-focused DNA is a weekly give-back program, with 52 weeks already planned into 2022, providing children with a chicken tender lunch box at local schools, youth sports programs and neighborhood day camps. In this way the CHX team can focus on a second major goal, to truly give back within the neighborhood delivering on a key area of change America needs, the opportunity to advance racial equity. "We know our community needs a success story, and we will work hard to be one of them!" End
