POPLAR GROVE, Ill. - July 14, 2021 - PRLog -- A new book focused on both fiction and non-fiction stories about spooky houseshas been released by Poplar Grove, Illinois based publisher Tales of Wonder and Dread (T.O.W.D.)., When the pandemic hit, Tales of Wonder and Dread cut back their publishing schedule and only released two books last year (a short science fiction novel titled "Wizard Song" and a horror novella titled "The Homestead," both by Gary Hill). "Spooky Houses: Spooky Fiction and Non-fiction Homebound Tales" is intended to be a return to a more normal publishing schedule from T.O.W.D..

"Spooky Houses" includes modern fiction tales from Heath D. Alberts, Elizabeth Lynn Blackson, Bill Camp, Gary Hill, Del Merritt and Kevin Wood. It also has classic fiction stories from Ambrose Bierce, Algernon Blackwood, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. There are also non-fiction stories from Rick Hale, Diane Hill and Gary Hill.

In his blurb for the book, Stephen Osbourne, author of the "Duncan Andrews Thrillers" series said, "Every culture around the globe has its ghostly tales and legends. We're fascinated by tales of the dead and love to shiver as we read of haunted houses and other places where the inhabitants aren't always corporeal.

'Spooky Houses' has something for every aficionado of the weird and macabre. There are classic tales by Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft and others whose writings send that delicious chill down our spines. There are new tales of creeping terror, where attics contain more than memories, where bed-sheets are yanked away from unsuspecting sleepers and where closed rooms may contain secrets no one should know.

Also included are true ghost stories and legends, such as the Frank Shaver Allen House in Joliet, where a family were terrified by ghostly apparitions, and the George Stickney House in Woodstock, specifically built to keep ghosts from becoming trapped within its walls and encourage evil spirits to stay out.

Here in 'Spooky Houses' you will find tales to make you shiver, tales that make you wonder what's lurking in the shadows and tales to make you wonder if we're ever REALLY alone in an old house."

"Spooky Houses" ls  available in paperback and hardcover at lulu.com/spotlight/strangesound and GaryHillAuthor.com.
