The central hub of the conference will be located at Tangaza University in Nairobi, Kenya with other hubs in Rome, Indonesia, and California. GMU will host the "Hub of the Americas" in California. Father Patrick Ryan, SJ, Laurence J. McGinley Professor of Religion and Society at Fordham University will be speaking via Zoom for US audiences on Islamophobia and paths to collaboration between Christians and Muslims around ways to achieve more global solidarity. Fr Michael Agliardo, SJ, Executive Director of United States China Catholic Association will use the precepts of Laudato Si to respond to the views of the Hon. Jerry Brown, (former governor of California) on the climate crisis shared with Mary Nichols, Vice Chair of the California-China Climate Institute in a presentation for the California-China Climate Institute at the University of California Berkeley. The first workshop of the Hub of the Americas will be on racial justice with presentations by noted authors in this area of concern as well as participation by activists in social justice movements. Susan Gunn, Director, Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns, will moderate "Addressing Structures of Racism and Building Human Solidarity in the United States." The second workshop will be on the disparity of COVID-19 global vaccine distribution. Father Augustine Pamplany, Ph.D, Director of Institute of Science and Religion, Little Flower Seminary, Aluva, Kerala, India, and Managing Editor of the Indian Journal of Science and Religion will speak about the ethical implications of the pandemic in India as well as the developing world: "Voices from India and Africa on the Impact of the Coronavirus on the Health, Economy and Politics of the global community." The third workshop of the Hub of the Americas with be on the climate crisis, entitled, "Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor" with moderator, Marita Grudzen, Chair, Diocese of San Jose, "Stewards of Our Common Home." The conference will take place on August 19, 20 and 21, 2021 and will be available on Zoom and YouTube. There will be no charge to participate but donations are welcome.
