Hunters Woods at Trails Edge seniors enjoy 'international' experience

RESTON, Va. - Aug. 9, 2021 - PRLog -- The Hunters Woods at Trails Edge senior living community recently took its residents on a journey to India.

Actually, a part of India's culture was brought to the Reston community through Hunters Woods' Armchair Travel Program. Residents enjoyed an educational presentation by Vilas Mujumdar that focused on India's food, traditions and history.

Mujumdar and his wife are residents at Hunters Woods at Trails Edge in independent living. He previously had presented during the Armchair Travel Program and was so well-received he offered to return to the "stage."

"He provided a great overview on India and it was so popular that he was gracious enough to do an encore presentation for the overflow crowd that couldn't attend the first presentation," said Cissy Nickel, Executive Operations Officer at Hunters Woods at Trails Edge. "We learned so much about the culture of India. It was a variety of societal hierarchy, a variety of foods, a variety of religions. He spoke about weddings and the economy and the history of India."

The Armchair Travel Program is a weekly feature at Hunters Woods at Trails Edge. The program will "take" residents to Ecuador, Afghanistan (Aug. 10), South Korea (Aug. 18) and Portugal (Aug. 25). Previously, the community held nearly 30 Armchair journeys through presentations.

"We welcome people who have ties to a different region to present on the unique cultural differences such as food or holiday traditions," said Nickel, who joined Hunters Woods' Assistant Executive Operations Officer Parween Nooruddin in wearing traditional Indian attire during Mujumdar's presentation.

"Our residents appreciate the opportunity to learn about a different culture and different traditions," Nickel said. "We created this program to showcase cultural differences and similarities of the people who live and work here."
