Follow on Google News | CCI Health & Wellness Services to Hold 4th Annual Run Baby Run 5KThe event serves to raise awareness of the health barriers found in prenatal care and support CCI's lifesaving work in the community.
By: CCI Health & Wellness The event seeks to bring awareness to the many challenges pregnant women face in accessing quality health care and raise essential funds to support CCI's prenatal program. "I'm very hopeful that the Run Baby Run race will help break down some of the health disparities within the community that we serve," said Aastasshia L. Brown, Maternal and Child Health Director. "As someone who has lost two friends, both women of color, to preventable complications from childbirth, I feel very strongly about CCI's initiatives. Our work will close the health care gap and lead to a higher quality of care for those who need it the most." Women in underserved populations often face challenges unique to their experiences when seeking health care. Immigrant women are typically denied client-centered and competent care due to cultural and language barriers, while women of color receive inadequate service regarding both pregnancy and chronic illness. CCI provides affordable and high-quality health care to everyone in the community without exception. The organization offers service on a sliding payment scale, allowing anyone to receive the help they need effectively. CCI is also the largest WIC provider in the state, providing free health education, breastfeeding support, and other services to pregnant and postpartum women. The annual Run Baby Run 5K race is open to everyone—runners, joggers, walkers, and supporters of any skill level may participate. Sponsorship opportunities are available to local businesses, and participants are encouraged to fundraise on behalf of CCI. Warmups will begin at 7:30 AM, while the race will start promptly at 8:00 AM. Free food and beverages will be available to participants after the race.
