ALICANTE, Spain - Oct. 20, 2021 - PRLog -- Rice pancakes have their pros and cons and have opened a debate on whether they are good or bad for your health. Like any other food, rice pancakes have both positive and negative health qualities.

Rice pancakes produce a satiety effect due to the puffed rice.

As for the pros; pancakes are low in calories, making them the perfect mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. They require no preparation and save us from having to buy utensils such as "sartenes para tortitas", how it is called in South America.

One of the strong points of this snack is that it is made from one of the most recommended foods in any sports diet: brown rice. This food is a source of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vitamin B, as well as the necessary fibre to maintain a good intestinal transit.

This food is good for those who do a lot of physical activity, as it provides a high dose of energy. In addition, because it is puffed and dehydrated rice, it serves to calm the appetite, something that does not happen when eating other types of snacks such as sweets.

On the negative side, although they are low in calories, they contain an excessive level of salt, as well as other refined products such as oils with few nutritional properties.

As it is a very easy and quick food to consume, it is often a mistake to ingest more than the recommended dose.

Another problem with eating these products regularly is not exercising at the same time. As we have already mentioned, cakes generate carbohydrates which, if not burned during exercise, end up being stored in the body, causing weight gain.

Rice cakes and coeliacs

Brown rice pancakes are recommended for coeliacs. As they cannot eat flours from cereals such as wheat, barley, rye, oats and buckwheat, these pancakes can replace these products in the diet.

Being crunchy and tasty, they can sometimes replace bread, as if toasted bread were consumed. However, all the pros and cons should be considered before deciding to replace bread with cakes.
