TOMS RIVER, N.J. - Nov. 5, 2021 - PRLog -- COVID-19 is raging in developing nations. Climate change and political unrest have joined forces to create record low supply chain availability. All this during a time when most businesses are trying to stay afloat following the heights of the pandemic. One local business owner knows this all too well.

"These supply chain issues began at the start of the pandemic," said Kenneth Malagierie, owner of Narcissus Florals in Toms River and Mueller's Historic Florist in Spring Lake Heights. "Now, we are challenged to deliver two years' worth of weddings in just six months' time."

With nearly 300 weddings booked in 2020, the local florist had to reschedule nearly all of them to 2021. And with supply chain issues present, comes the inevitable – price increases from distributors. "Some blooms are up over 100 percent per stem price," said Malagieie. "What's even more challenging is that we are currently operating on quotes from two years ago, which shrinks margins that are already tight."

With several weddings already booked for 2022, Malagierie hopes that supply chain challenges will normalize soon. "The horizon looks bright as we head into our winter season and the southern hemisphere experiences their spring and summer seasons," he said. "This means they will be planting, cultivating, cutting and shipping their florals over to us."

Malagiere is looking forward to a full growth cycle to recover fully. "We will see things come back to normal by next spring," he added. "However, the hard goods (i.e., glass/plastic products and vessels and funeral easels) are extremely difficult to source as they are on backorder for months. Luckily, we are fortunate to have a team of artists on staff that use their creativity to deliver amazing floral arrangements to families."

Those interested can help Narcissus Florals continue to spread the love by recycling their floral vases from previous orders. "We are asking our loyal customers to drop off their vases at our Toms River or Spring Lake locations or arrange for a front door pick up," Malagiere said. "Those who recycle will receive a complimentary floral gift."
