DETROIT - Dec. 21, 2021 - PRLog -- The Disability Network Wayne County Detroit conducted a survey on their Living Green Project with consumers and discovered that a high percentage of the consumers did not have fresh green produce within walking distance. Furthermore, they had to rely on public transportation. The survey also projected that a large percentage of the consumers were unable to walk to purchase produce without assistance or at all.  The program evaluation uncovered that 91.7% of the participants received their weekly Living Green trays as scheduled.  As well, 91.75% reported that they believe the consumption of the Living Green produce improved their overall health.  83.3% reported that they believe that increasing his or her green vegetable intake, on a daily basis, can boost your immune system.  62.5% reported that they currently rely on public transportation to purchase fresh food.  37% reported that they do not have access to fresh and green vegetables within walking distance of his or her home.  95.8% reported that it is his or her goal to participate in the weekly Living Green program during the winter months to help combat the 2nd wave of COVID-19.  The majority of the participants rated "better health" as the top priority for participating in this program.

We have designed a "Living Green" Funding Campaign that includes a web-based online fundraiser that is entitled CASHAPP $1.00 to $DNWCD! This program raises money for the cultivation and procurement of fresh food from the garden. In addition, we have coupled this program with a "Become a Garden Sponsor" that requests donors to match the CASHAPP a Dollar! proceeds, dollar-for-dollar. The Become a Garden Sponsor program is aimed toward corporation and individual donors starting at $1500.00 per donation. The funds assigned to this program will provide fresh food for a 12-month period that costs approximately $105,000.00 to procure the garden vegetables and fruit for this delivery program.

The Disability Network Wayne County Detroit have a database of over 32,000 elderly and disabled residents who are in need of services.  The CASH APP $1.00 Donations to $DNWCD will go to providing the fresh produce and food boxes that are delivered on a weekly basis throughout the year.  We provide these services to those who report no transportation to immediate fresh food hubs, isolation, and lack of mobility.  Also, we are equipped and prepared to provide critical, emergency food to those who are sick and shut in due to illness, disability, and/or age.
