If you're a TurboTax user, you know that the program is a key component in your tax preparation process. And if you're a current customer, you may be wondering why TurboTax is charging you for an additional service.

Here are 3 reasons why TurboTax may charge you:

What is TurboTax?

TurboTax is a tax preparation service that offers different levels of service, depending on the level of personalization desired. The most common option is TurboTax Deluxe, which offers plenty of features for self-preparation.

Why is  TurboTax charging me?

There are a few reasons why TurboTax may charge you. The first, and most obvious, is that you purchased the wrong product; check your receipt! If you purchased the desktop version of TurboTax when you meant to purchase the online version you will be charged for an additional service that you do not need.

The second reason is that you forgot to activate your trial and it has not yet expired. Trials for TurboTax products last for 30 days after which point they expire. If this is the case, make sure to update your personal information before your trial expires or else TurboTax will charge you for an additional service.

The third reason is that your subscription has expired and your personal information is out of date. This can happen if there is a lapse in payments or if there was some other issue with payment in terms of how it was done (e.g., credit card died). When this happens, TurboTax will revert back to charging for an additional service because it does not know any different information about who should be paying for the account.
