Barcoding, Inc. Partners with Susquehanna Service Dogs to Name a Second Assistance Dog

BALTIMORE - March 16, 2022 - PRLog -- First there was SSD Suzie. Now there's SSD Atlas. Barcoding, Inc. and Susquehanna Service Dogs, a program of Keystone Human Services, are pleased to announce a partnership to name a second assistance dog. SSD Atlas is a yellow Labrador retriever, born on December 24, 2021.

Each dog Susquehanna Service Dogs places is individually trained to support their partner and enhance their life. Dogs can assist people with physical disabilities that impact mobility or balance, as well as people with psychiatric disabilities, autism, PTSD, and seizure disorders. SSD also trains hearing dogs to assist people with hearing impairments, as well as facility dogs.

SSD Suzie, the first dog named by Barcoding, Inc., was recently placed as a companion dog, where she provides comfort, companionship, and motivation for family members. Although companion dogs differ from assistance dogs in that they don't have public access and aren't necessarily trained in specific tasks, they still change lives.

SSD Atlas is just beginning his training to become an assistance dog. Training starts from the moment a dog is born to set them up for future success. SSD Atlas is currently with his puppy raiser, who will spend the next 15-18 months teaching him good house manners, self-control, and over 20 foundational cues. Atlas will then enter Advanced Training, where SSD's professional trainers will match him with his partner and individually train him in specific tasks specially designed for her partner's unique needs.
