JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - May 20, 2022 - PRLog -- Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown agreed to a settlement with the United States Department of Justice. In the joint agreement, the United States Government agreed to drop all but one charge against Congresswoman Brown, and she agreed to plead to one tax count. As part of the plea deal, Congresswoman Brown will be given credit for time served during the months she spent at FCC Coleman Camp. This plea deal ends all litigation between the Justice Department and Congresswoman Brown.

"God is good! God delivered me! I am finally free!" exclaimed Congresswoman Brown. "Today, I walked out of the Bryan Simpson United States Courthouse, in Jacksonville, Florida, the very same courthouse which I authorized, funded for $100 million and named when I served this community in Congress. The last time I was in this building was October 4, 2021, and I remember only thinking that I wanted to be with my mother who was in hospice. I was blessed to be with her that night as she was transitioning."

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals vacated her convictions and sentence and remanded the case for a new trial. Brown chose to agree to the minimal plea deal and put the entire matter behind her.

Upon her release, Brown issued the following statement:

"I know the Lord sent me to the Camp to help others. I mentored and counseled so many ladies there. When I arrived, I found it to be a spiritual desert. I helped raise and revitalize spirituality by reaching out to community leaders and ministers, encouraging them to visit the ladies in the facility, and provide them with books, CDs, and DVDs. When I left the Camp, hundreds of the ladies screamed 'Ms. Corrine, please don't forget us!' For 24 years as a Member of Congress, I focused on transportation and veteran issues. I'm proud of all that I was able to get done for our community. But now I have a new mission that centers on fixing our broken criminal justice
system.

"This has been a horrible process; it has hurt my family, friends, supporters, and people throughout our community. Their unwavering support and consistent encouragement have been my rock; I am so grateful to the many people who have remained in my corner. Above all, I give thanks to God. Through faith, I am stronger, wiser, and so much better.

"Thank you for your continued prayers and support! To God be the glory!"
