Branch Libraries Unveiled Onboard Century Cruises

No worries! We bring a true library to you while you cruising with Century fleet on the Yangtze River. Furthermore, we bring you a branch of Chongqing Library, also known as Roosevelt Library. The Chongqing Library is one of the largest comprehensive public libraries in China.

The library was established in 1947, and was one of only five national libraries in China at the time. It is one of the two earliest United Nations document depositories in China. In 1947, the National Roosevelt Library, the predecessor of the Chongqing Library, was established to commemorate former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's contributions to China's resistance to Japanese aggression and the anti-fascist victory in World War II.

The library houses important documents from WWII; over 500,000 ancient rare books dating from the Song dynasty in mint condition; and a United Nations depository library, now containing over 100,000 books and UN documents.

From today, our passengers have the privilege to browse through a wide selection of the books from the Chongqing Library while cruising on the Yangtze River onboard Century Cruises. The passenger can also use online resource interaction to learn about China and Chinese rich history as well the local culture and traditions along the mighty Yangtze River. Each Century Cruises vessel will feature a quiet and cozy Chongqing library branch area with an extensive selection of books, both in English and Chinese languages. The books could be borrowed and taken back to the spacious cabin to read when you are sitting on the balcony with the natural river view during the stay on our ship. To enhance the family experience onboard our vessels, we at Century Cruises provide a kid's library reading corner too.
