By: Lorenzo's House CHICAGO, IL - Lorenzo's House, a nonprofit dedicated to innovative care for individuals with younger-onset Alzheimer's and their families, is hosting its 2nd annual international summit focused on young people of a parent or guardian diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer's and other dementias. The free summit will be held virtually from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm CST on Tuesday, June 21. The goal is to turn 'The Longest Day' in the Alzheimer's community into 'The Brightest Day,' an opportunity for young caregivers to find community, solidarity, and wellness through story-sharing and expert-facilitated sessions. The event will feature art-making with the Yale University Art Gallery, sharing pieces of familiar stories, growing a youth alliance, exchanging caregiver strategies, and expanding brain health knowledge. Co-hosts are The Memory Center at UChicago, UsAgainstAlzheimer's, Yale University Art Gallery, and Hilarity for Charity (HFC), an organization founded by Lauren Miller Rogen and Seth Rogen, The Youth Movement Against Alzheimer's, and Brave New Outpost. Executive Director Diana Shulla Cose founded Lorenzo's House after her husband Lorenzo was diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer's in 2017. It is a place centered on more than just memory care for the patient at the heart of this trauma. Diana and Lorenzo's teenage son Lucas imagined a space to offer solace and connection for young caregivers, specifically those of a parent or guardian diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer's." Younger-onset Alzheimer's and other dementias impact more than 5 Million, and there has been a 200% increase between 2013-2017. This is a diagnosis in individuals as young as 30s - to mid-60s. 1 in every 20 people with Alzheimer's disease is under 65.
