Follow on Google News | Affordable Oakville Children's Orthodontist Jaw & Tooth Pain Invisalign vs BracesA research that compared the pain and discomfort of Invisalign transparent aligners, two of the most popular methods, to conventional braces used for straightening teeth.
The study examined data to determine which group had used more pain relievers to combat discomforts of the two orthodontic treatment methods. Patients who received each of the therapies kept daily pain diaries to document their discomforts for the research. For each patient, three diaries were created: one at the initial consultation, one after one month, and one after two months. These are the most painful times because the initial motions of the teeth during orthodontic treatment are the most painful. The participants were instructed to record their levels of discomfort during various daily activities including resting, biting, and chewing in addition to pain reliever consumption and any sleep disturbances. As anticipated both treatments caused comparable reported amounts of discomfort at first since early tooth motions tend to be uncomfortable until the patient becomes acclimated to the pressure. Both male and female patients reported similar levels of pain. However, during the first week of therapy, individuals using conventional brackets reported increased discomfort, especially during activities involving chewing motion compared to being at rest. This could be due to the fact that one group of patients had to consume their food with the Invisalign aligners removed. Patients with conventional braces experienced much more discomfort further in the study. The discomfort experienced at these sessions was, though less, still much higher than that experienced by Invisalign patients. Finally, a greater percentage of patients in the conventional group took pain medication, compared to a significantly lower percentage of Invisalign patients. This is a strong indication that traditional orthodontic treatment causes more pain and suffering. For any orthodontic questions about Invisalign or braces, contact us at https://bit.ly/ End
