These popular classes welcome first-time scuba divers to dive directly under the supervision of an experienced instructor. "We love working with first-timers," Ty is a Scuba Diver Training Master who has trained over 20,000 new divers. New divers learn the fundamentals of diving, including pressure and altitude concerns, hand signals, equalizing pressure in the ears, how the equipment works and how to use it, clearing water from the mask, locating, and clearing water from your regulator, and much more. After a brief lesson, beginner divers enter the water. The dive lasts 30 to 40 minutes, and the entire class, including the dive, lasts about 2 hours. No experience is necessary. Scuba diving does not require any prior experience. Divers, on the other hand, must be good swimmers, in reasonably good physical condition, and at least 12 years old. Diving is permitted on Maui for children under the direct supervision of a certified scuba instructor. For children aged 10 and 11, a private intro course is available.
