Follow on Google News | Las Vegas Desert Dogs Expansion Draft ResultsOn Thursday, July 7, 2022 the NLL hosted the Las Vegas Desert Dogs Expansion Draft, with the league's 15th team picking its inaugural players. The following are the players that were picked in the draft.
Selection 1: JACKSON NISHIMURA (LD) from the Albany FireWolves The former second round pick from the 2018 Entry Draft has established himself as a solid defenseman in the NLL. He provides great speed on the backend to bring the ball up in transition. He recorded a career high with 5 goals, 6 assists and 123 loose balls this past season. Selection 2: CONNOR FIELDS (LF) from the Buffalo Bandits1 Fields was unfortunately the lone key contributor to not be protected out of what was the highest scoring offense in the NLL in the 2021-22 season in Buffalo. Happenstance of having only five players eligible for protection out the front door. The former first round pick from the 2018 draft had a breakout year in front of his home crowd with 32 goals, 35 assists and 97 loose ball recoveries. Selection 3: RILEY HUTCHCRAFT (G) from the Toronto Rock1 Hutchcraft has been waiting in the shadows for a few years now in Toronto behind Nick Rose. Hutchcraft just turned 25 and has years of experience in front of him. In slim minutes since 2018, he has been impressive with allowing only 12 goals on 75 shots (.840 save percentage). Selection 4: JOHN WAGNER (LD) from the Rochester Knighthawks Another young player in John Wagner, 25, who is looking to develop into a consistent NLL player. He suited up for 12 games for the Knighthawks last season, recording 2 goals, 7 assists, 69 loose balls and 7 caused turnovers. In 2020, he played in 10 games for the expansion New York Riptide. Selection 5: LANDON KELLS (G) from the Calgary Roughnecks Kells was a third-round selection in the 2019 entry draft to Calgary. The 21-year-old goaltender was able to get some experience in the NLL this past season with just over 10 minutes of action, saving 5 of 7 shots. He has been fortunate to play alongside some of the best goalies across the NLL in Christian Del Bianco in Calgary and Evan Kirk, Mike Poulin, and Matt Vinc in the summers in Peterborough. This summer with Peterborough, Kells has saved 44 of 51 shots (.863 sv%). http://www.nll.com End
