Unmasking White Supremacy in Mental Health Continuing Education Certificate

1. Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies (CGI) in partnership with Just Solutions proudly announces the launch of a new continuing education certificate, Unmasking White Supremacy in Mental Health. The Unmasking White Supremacy in Mental Health Certificate is a training for mental and medical healthcare providers and administrators providing recommendations for individuals to do anti-racism work within their department, organization, and institution. The certificate is available online, on-demand, and offers two (2) hours of CE credit, provided by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program or the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

The Unmasking White Supremacy in Mental Health Certificate includes 2 parts, Part 1: Why Are We Here? and Part 2: What Can We Do? Part 1: Why Are We Here? establishes a shared understanding of core concepts related to racism and white supremacy, reviews the history and foundation of anti-Black racism in mental health, and identifies the characteristics of white supremacy within mental health organizations. Part 2: What Can We Do? establishes a shared understanding of core concepts related to anti-racism and social justice principles, teaches participants how to develop tools to identify white supremacy culture may be operating within behavioral health organizations, and educates participants on how to recognize their role in disrupting racism and white supremacy in their institutions

The Unmasking White Supremacy in Mental Health Certificate is designed and facilitated by Dr. James Bell III, DSW the principal founder of Just Solutions LLC, which produces the Equity Matters Podcast, and the Social Justice Academy. Dr. Bell has developed a practice and research trajectory ​in health disparities and inequities, emphasizing the policy ​context and health outcomes of African Americans. He earned his bachelor's in psychology and Master of ​Social Work from Michigan State University and Doctor of Social Work degree from the ​University of Southern California with a focus on the ​intersection of race, racism, and health. Dr. Bell has been ​recognized as a thought leader in the areas of health ​inequities and disparities, social justice, and social ​innovation and has presented broadly on these topics. His passion for this work is evident in his personal, ​academic and professional life. Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies is honored to share Dr. Bell's expertise on the critical topics of diversity, equity & cultural competency in healthcare to their continuing education audience.
