Norway is 10 years ahead in vehicle electrification. What can the world learn from it?

BRUSSELS - Sept. 19, 2022 - PRLog -- Norway has succeeded where every other country has largely or completely failed! And it is not only or even mainly about money!

While some factors have made it easier to experiment with electrification in Norway than elsewhere, most of the components of its success can be emulated by other governments. And car makers as well as charging point operators (CPOs) can also save $ billions by replicating Norway's recipes as well as avoiding its errors.

The world can learn a lot from the Norwegian example and that is precisely why PTOLEMUS Consulting Group published the Norway Vehicle Electrification Study.

PTOLEMUS forecasts that 100% of all new cars will be electric in Norway by 2025. For other countries to achieve their electrification and climate ambitions at a reasonable cost, the example of Norway should be studied and learned from. Efforts such as combined  EV purchase and usage incentives, decentralised investment in public charging infrastructure, and sufficient decarbonised electricity are just a few of the examples governments and institutions can take away from the global leader.

A free abstract of the 120-page report is available here (https://www.ptolemus.com/research/norway-vehicle-electrif...).

Frederic Bruneteau, Managing Director at PTOLEMUS, said: "Most governments and OEMs see electrification as mainly about investing trillions in charging point infrastructure. Norway has proven how a market-driven approach combined with a complete set of incentives can trigger the take off that the world needs. At a time when the need to move away from fossil fuel vehicles is at the top of everybody's mind, governments needs to find ways to succeed in a budget-constrained environment".

The report analyses the successes but also the failures of the Norwegian model and provides insights on how governments and private firms can accelerate their own efforts in vehicle electrification. This includes an examination of the global challenges of electrification, an in-depth analysis of the state of the Norwegian EV market, an overview of the EV public charging market and a 2020-2030 market forecast encompassing electrification of the different vehicle categories and road traffic.
