Follow on Google News | Screenwriter/Filmmaker Michael Bennett Heading to Santa Monica For American Film Market FestivalBy: Michael Bennett Destination Unknown centers on a traumatized 17-year-old volunteer in World War II who escapes the clutches of the Klan only to find an equally insidious foe within that threatens to thwart his segregated battalion's critical D-Day mission. It's MEN OF HONOR meets RED TAILS. Destination Unknown was recently selected as a quarter finalist in the Big Apple Festival, a semifinalist at the Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards and a Second Round recipient at the Austin Film Festival. Bennett's screenplay was selected out of thousands of entries in all three of the competitions. "I worked on this story for a year and feel honored the hard work and sacrifice that went into crafting Destination Unknown resonated with so many," Bennett said. "I can't wait to get this film into production. When you consider the thousands of excellent screenplays submitted annually and the subjective nature of this business, placing in these competitions is a huge honor." Bennett, who considers himself a closet historian, has already begun working on his next two screenplays. One is a historical thriller inspired by a true story with a contemporary setting and elements of the old Las Vegas mafia. The second screenplay is also inspired by true events, but with a comedic touch set in Jamaica. Besides becoming associated with a co-producer or director, Bennett said he will be looking for a literary manager or agent at the AFM festival. He will consider optioning or selling his screenplay, but would prefer to be a co-producer. "While many writers have had success without representation from an agent or literary manager, it's extremely hard to get a project off the ground without representation," Bennett added: "Like most of us, we are the sum of all our parts. My parts include attending film school at UCLA, being a military brat and veteran. The constant travel and relocation throughout my life influences my writing. It enables me to look at the world through a global lens that's piqued my interests in the nuances of life and cultures here at home and abroad." For more information, visit www.727squared.com. End
