My Skin of Color Launches First Bilingual Teledermatology Platform for People of Color

The online dermatology service provides affordable and convenient consultations to patients who lack access to culturally competent care.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Oct. 5, 2022 - PRLog -- My Skin of Color launches a first of its kind dermatology telehealth service for skin of color, offering prescription treatments and consultations in both English and Spanish in the state of New York. The company's mission is to increase access to care among people with historical barriers to dermatological treatment.

Almost half the US population has skin of color, or pigmented skin, which faces unique problems including increased risk of conditions like hyperpigmentation, razor bumps, acne, and hair loss. My Skin of Color offers a unique service for patients to receive virtual consultations from the privacy of their home by submitting a free, no-commitment inquiry. If eligible, an expert dermatology provider will diagnose and send prescriptions to local pharmacies for only $69. "Most of our patients have long suffered in silence and had their skin and hair concerns dismissed by the medical establishment," said My Skin of Color founder Dr. Gibran Shaikh, a board certified dermatologist.

Unlike existing dermatological telehealth services offering minimal evaluation of a patient's dermatology needs and expensive subscriptions, My Skin of Color provides an expert diagnosis and treatment plan that is designed for pigmented skin. Additionally, the new service aims to serve Spanish speaking patients that represent about 41 million U.S. residents."I created My Skin of Color as an emphatically and unapologetically safe space for people of color from all backgrounds to get diagnosed and receive prescription treatments with proven results at an affordable price," said Dr. Shaikh.

My Skin of Color is currently available exclusively in New York state, but the service plans to expand to all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The company sends prescriptions to patients' preferred local pharmacies and specialty pharmacies that deliver. Prescriptions are paid with insurance or digital payments, like from a traditional doctor's office. "Providing dermatologic care for millions of Americans without access to care is our goal," said Dr. Shaikh. "I intentionally chose an aggressive price point because I want it to be available to whoever needs care."
