By: Jace's Journey In May 2018, Tomeka delivered Jace Alexander prematurely and with no fetal heartbeat. She was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome, a disorder of the liver and blood. As she and her husband later found out, the condition can be treated with proper diagnosis and prevent sickness or death. Brandon and Tomeka Isaac created Jace's Journey, Inc. to honor their son and with a goal to raise awareness and contribute to improving maternal and fetal healthcare disparities. The Isaacs' experience with the misdiagnosis drives their passion to ensure that every birthing person receives equitable care. Since forming the organization, they have collaborated with several organizations to share their vision. Tomeka has also traveled to Chicago to present at the National Maternal Health Innovation Symposium and Washington, DC to address the Moms Agenda at Mom Congress. As the foremost mission of Jace's Journey, Tomeka says " we are passionately working to eliminate maternal and infant health disparities through advocacy, education and community engagement." Registration for the walk can be completed at https://www.jacesjourney.org/ For press and media inquiries, contact Tomeka James Isaac info@jacesjourney.org. Proceeds from the race will help support programs and initiatives, such as: A Doula from Jace - providing families with doula support from prenatal to postpartum; doula scholarships in partnership with Wise Community Doula, Sisters in Loss and P.A.I.L. Advocates; and housing assistance for families with an unexpected financial loss. End
