Trevor Steyn, founder of Esse Skincare, studied organic chemistry and completed a master's degree in 1996. His mentor, prof. Siegfried Drewes, instilled in him a passion for studying the chemical compositions of African plants. Work on the products began in 2000 with research on Kigelia Africana, the African sausage tree.
