Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist who emerged as one of the most famous figures in the history of Western art after his death. In only a decade, Van Gogh created a prolific body of more than 2,000 works of art.

Shocking Fact!
During his life, he only managed to sell only one painting! That painting is The Red Vineyards at Arles, and he sold it for a mere 400 francs (about $2,000 today) at a Brussels exhibition in March 1890, four months before his suicide.

The Value of Vincent Van Gogh's paintings
The portrait of Dr. Paul Gachet sold in 1990 for a whopping $83 million. It is the most expensive Van Gogh painting. This Van Gogh painting's price generally spans the millions; hence the current estimated value sits at $152 million. According to art publishers, the worth of his entire collection is approximately $7 billion for the top tier.
