"The disrespect that rappers have for black women has been an ongoing issue in the hip-hop industry. After growing tired of watching this behavior play out, with rappers like Da Baby, Tory Lanez, and most recently Drake's controversy with Meg Thee Stallion, I decided to make a movie with a message that addresses this issue head-on in the hopes that it can start a much-needed conversation," said Smith. The 28th annual Cucalorus Film Festival will showcase 136 independent and international films, November 16-20, 2022, in Wilmington, NC. The festival will also feature a schedule of performances and a series of conversations about social justice. Film screenings will take place at Thalian Hall, on campus at UNCW, and in their community cinema at Jengo's Playhouse. More than 200 artists will attend from all over the world.
