Follow on Google News | Absentee Ballots In The 2022 Mid Term ElectionsBy: AARO When AARO was founded in 1973, overseas Americans did not have the right to vote in U.S. elections. Thanks to advocacy by AARO in its "teabag campaign," overseas Americans gained this right in 1976. Since then, AARO has advocated to improve voting legislation and expand voting rights for the overseas community. AARO President Doris Speer said "Close races in several states on Election Day are once again a reminder that all overseas voters should exercise their right to vote. We thank all of you who made that effort this year. We would also like to thank state elections officials who faithfully implement state laws that ensure the counting of overseas voters' ballots. We encourage state legislators to engage with AARO when contemplating changes to their absentee voter laws." President Speer also reminded overseas Georgia voters to vote in the Senate runoff election to be held on December 6th. In 2022, AARO directors and members conducted absentee voter outreach in several locations worldwide to help overseas voters to obtain, complete, and return their absentee ballot. Over the coming months AARO will begin work on its absentee voter outreach plans for the 2024 election. AARO is an international, non-partisan association with members in 46 countries that researches issues that significantly affect the lives of overseas Americans and advocates these issues on their behalf. http://aaro.org End
