Zawadi's Annual Black Artists Show pays homage and continues a tradition started by artist Karl Graham. For years, Graham coordinated an African ornament show at Belmont Arts. Named after the building's street, 1800 Belmont Rd, NW, in the Adams-Morgan community, Belmont Arts was the center of art, culture, enterprise, and community.  From 1991 to 2002, Belmont Arts was an incubator, community gathering space, and laboratory for innovation and imagination across disciplines and media.
