Follow on Google News | Kwanzaa People of Color Will Celebrate the 46th Annual Kwanzaa Gwaride (Parade) December 26th, 202People of Color Founder R.W. Akile brings the Cultural Festival to the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles
People of Color founder, R.W. Akile has spent a lifetime dedicated to the cultural and economic betterment of inner-city communities. For over 45 years, he has produced the Kwanzaa Gwardie Parade and Celebration in Los Angeles and surrounding cities. The theme of this year's celebration is Kila Kitu (Everything) The Kwanzaa New Year celebration reminds the community and families to renew their spirits and strengthen the family unit. Past participants King and Queens have included - Stevie Wonder, Danny Bakewell, Roderick Mosley, Marla Gibbs, and Esther Rolle. Past Community Sponsors included BP Oil, Black Employees Association, and The Los Angeles City Council. This year the organization is proud to honor Torre Brannon Reece, Founder and Director of The Family as Oba (King), and Crystal Mitchell, Co-Director of RBD, as Iyada (Queen). The Parade will travel south on Crenshaw, from Adams Boulevard to Leimert Park. It will culminate and evolve into a Kita Kitu (All Kwanzaa) Vendor and Entertainment Festival, sponsored by the Art Walk. Local Jazz, R & B, Reggae, and African Drummers will provide festive music and dance.
