Dr. Rajan Mahtani praised the decision from the Zambian President stating that it was an unwavering and bold decision from the Zambian government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema. The concept of death penalty is archaic and holds no significance in the modern legal system. It is an inhumane, degrading and cruel law which is already abolished across majority of the nations across the globe. In Zambia too, the last death penalty was given in 1997 when the person was executed and since then, Presidents have been using mercy prerogatives to avoid death penalty. As such, it is high time to abolish this archaic law and the decision from the Zambian President is a step in the right direction.
