Urban League of Long Island, Inc. receives $1.145 M in Community Project Funding for 2023

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. - Dec. 31, 2022 - PRLog -- Senator Chuck Schumer and Congresswoman Kathleen Rice collaborate to announce $15,117,028 in Community Project Funding for the Fiscal Year 2023. The omnibus government funding package has allocated $1,145,820 for Workforce Development activities at the Urban League of Long Island, Incorporated.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the package by a vote of 225-201. The Community Project Funding for 2023 is one of Congresswoman Rice's final acts in Congress. Kathleen Rice, Congressional Representative for New York's 4th District, worked with Senator Schumer to secure this funding.

"The Urban League of Long Island, Inc. Board of Directors and our constituents thank Senator Chuck Schumer and Congresswoman Kathleen Rice for valuing the impact of the work we do. Communities of color across Long Island continue to face challenges in all the leading socioeconomic indicators. This funding will provide access for residents to participate in employment & entrepreneurial opportunities that were previously unattainable," said Sidney Joyner, Board Chair of the Urban League of Long Island, Incorporated.

"Urban League of Long Island and constituents of NY-04 will now have much-needed resources to empower those in need of life skills and workforce training to obtain jobs that close income disparities in low to moderate-income communities," said Theresa Sanders, President of the Urban League of Long Island, Incorporated. "On behalf of the Urban League, I would like to Thank Rep. Rice and Senator Schumer for their years of partnership and ability to secure this funding."

The mission of the Urban League Long, Inc. is to enable African Americans and other disenfranchised people to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights.
