AI Comic Book Creators Receive Death Threats

LAS VEGAS - Jan. 3, 2023 - PRLog -- Will this anger become violence?  In the past week, those utilizing AI Art for creating comic books things have gotten very real. Comic book artists using AI Art as a part of their workflow are being forced to go underground. "I can't believe we are getting death threats. AI presents an incredible story telling tool, but I have a family and a career, and I don't want to get blackballed." Commented a creator that has requested anonymity.

The comic art world is ablaze with the allegations that AI art used in comic books is theft of the artist art style. AI art is text to images, wherein AI bot is given a written prompt and the bot returns an image. So, if a prompt is entered that refers directly to an artist, particularly with a very distinctive style, the ai bot will create an image in that style.

An example of this is: "A woman" and "A woman in the art style of Picasso". There is a base structure that is rising named ethical uses and there are two immediate applications of it. 1) that no artist names are directly included in the prompt used to generate the art and 2) an opt out database of artist that do not want to be included in any of the AI datasets. The question becomes far more complicated if someone references 4 artists in a style for example "a woman in the art style of Picasso HR Giger Frank Frazetta Charles Klauder".

"If an artist style was something a AI artist could license or pay a royalty for then there could be a workable compensation system, similar to the beginning of MP3 and Napster." The anonymous artist continued. "The vilification of artists recognizing this new technology as just another tool to create with is not something to be taken lightly. We have to adopt, there is no going back, no way to put the genie back in the bottle, but we shouldn't be subjected to death threats against us or our families.
