TOMS RIVER, N.J. - Feb. 8, 2023 - PRLog -- Now that we are a few weeks into 2023, it is the perfect time to think ahead and make the necessary preparations for the future. The experts are Carluccio, Leone, Dimon, Doyle & Sacks, LLC (CLDDS) offer tips on what you can do to make the most of the New Year by preparing for the unexpected through proper estate planning.

Certified Elder Law Attorney Annemarie Schreiber, Esq., advises clients to be proactive when it comes to estate planning.

"Having estate planning documents prepared before an emergency or crisis occurs will help reduce the anxiety and fear that an emergency or crisis can create," said Schreiber. "Knowing you have your estate planning documents completed ensures a level of comfort when facing a future of uncertainties. It allows you to be proactive rather than reactive."

These basic documents (i.e., administration of trusts and estates, advanced medical directives, disability planning, elder law, estate planning, powers of attorney, wills and trusts, etc.) allow you to choose who will make financial and healthcare decisions and to avoid unnecessary lawsuits to implement those decisions.

"While these are not topics that anyone likes to contemplate, most of the documents are revocable as long as you are alive and have the capacity to understand what you are doing and/signing," said Joseph J. La Costa, Esq., CPA.

Jonathan Z. Petro, Esq., Managing Partner of CLDDS, advises potential clients, including friends and family, that they should have an estate plan in place once they have children, a home, or any assets of reasonable significance. "Having people in place to make decisions for you, if you are unable, will help to lessen any confusion or burden on the individuals you care about," he added.

Christina desGroseilliers, Esq. echoes that sentiment. "Parents should also update their estate planning documents to include their children once that time comes," she added.
