Transgender Artists Speak For ThemselvesTransgender and gender nonconforming art exhibit opens at Monmouth University.
By: J C "For me, words cannot adequately express what it has been like to go through life as a transgender man in America," says Jacob. "It's an honor to show six mixed-media pieces in this exhibit from my ongoing project entitled Deprivation of Self, Portraits. But more importantly, I'm so impressed with Monmouth University for advancing discussions far beyond the trope of Diversity and Inclusion webpages and committees, and instead inviting historically marginalized people to represent themselves as artists." In conjunction with this gallery exhibition, there will also be a film screening/panel discussion of the film From This Day Forward with director Sharon Shattuck and her parents Trisha and Marcia Shattuck. Following the film screening/panel discussion there will be an artist reception in the Pollak Gallery. The exhibition is on display Pollak Gallery from January 23 – March 11.
