Your Story Matters: Credo Writing Workshop

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Feb. 16, 2023 - PRLog -- Telling stories is in our DNA. We tell a story when discussing our day with a friend or family member by casting ourselves as the main character and describing the obstacles we faced throughout the day.

"Mankind has always communicated through stories," says Christopher Dalton, co-founder of Huck&Dorothy, an entertainment company based out of Scottsdale, Arizona. "The question is: what's stopping us from putting pen to paper and crafting great tales?"

Many say they have an idea for a story (or poem, play, film, or song) yet have never written anything down. Why? Three main reasons pop up often: fear of the blank page, lack of time, and writing taking too much effort.

"We developed our online live writing workshop--The Credo Writing Workshop--to help people address these obstacles. One of my mentors, a screenwriter, teacher, mentor, and wise sage, Ron Austin, lays out three answers to the obstacles that keep you from writing," says Christopher. "I'll summarize them as wake up, treasure others, and transform conflict."

Wake Up. Chaos surrounds us, and a pivotal answer to helping others is to realize how much your story matters. Wake up: someone needs to hear how you overcame illness or succeeded in a new venture.

Treasure Others. There are people who need your time. So spend a few minutes, treasure their presence, and help them with a story from your life. Tell it to them verbally, or write it down.

Transform Conflict. Revealing flaws or failures to others can be embarrassing. But if you are aware of others and present with them, you will see their needs are more significant than your fear, lack of time, or the inconvenience of learning to put a simple story together.

"An old saying applies here: 'there is no time like the present,'" adds Christopher. "Make the most of every opportunity in these weird days. Your children, family, friends, co-workers, and the world, are looking for answers—a way of understanding the chaos they are in. You can help them by putting your stories into verse, film, or tales."

To aid new or stuck writers, Christopher and Huck&Dorothy are launching The Credo Writing Workshop, an online course to help those who want to write creatively get started.
