Social isolation and loneliness is related to a reduced quality of life for seniors.
By: Sending Sunshine Sending Sunshine experienced significant growth since inception. The first cards and letters to seniors were delivered to 173 care facilities in 2020 during the pandemic. Today, over 600 senior care agencies, nationwide, request service. Marissa Parker, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Sending Sunshine says, "We operate 100% through the work of unpaid volunteers. Resources are required to deliver our vital and essential programs to meet growing demand." Sending Sunshine was honoured with a June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. The Award recognizes the achievements of those who make outstanding contributions through voluntarism to the wellbeing of local communities. Parker says, "Volunteers are the heart and soul of Sending Sunshine. With the help of supporters, students, and volunteers around the globe, we provide social connection for seniors in real and tangible ways."
