New research reveals how businesses are approaching hybrid working

HAMMERSMITH, U.K. - Feb. 21, 2023 - PRLog -- Staff are expected in the office 2.5 days per week on average, SMEs and the tech sector have the most flexible policies

A new Winmark survey gives an up-to-the-minute snapshot of the types of hybrid and flexible initiatives being implemented by businesses. The research surveyed 340 C-Suite decision makers representing a wide range of business sectors and sizes. Findings include:

-The vast majority (96%) of businesses have formal hybrid working policies.
-Employees are expected in the office 2.5 days per week on average.
-The technology sector and SMEs are the most likely to allow entirely flexible policies, where staff are free to work anywhere as long as they deliver- 26% of small firms allow 'work anywhere' flexibility compared to just 3% of large firms; and almost half of technology sector firms (45%) allow 'work anywhere' flexibility.
-Leaders are finding innovative ways to balance employee needs with good business outcomes, including using task-based hybrid models or implementing separate 'new starter' policies (e.g., here new recruits spend the first six months 100% in the office).
-A third of organisations provide all staff equipment used for home working, and a half provide some equipment.
=Just over half of all organisations have reconfigured their office space to adapt to post-pandemic working patterns.

In response to the survey findings, John Jeffcock, Chief Executive at Winmark, comments:

"Many leaders are still experimenting with their hybrid models and finding it a challenge to balance productivity with the needs of employees. There is very little data available to help them make informed decisions, so our report helps by benchmarking current policies, showing how flexible those policies are and how departments differ from one another in their approach."

John Madden, Research Director at Winmark, said:

"Hybrid working policies have become an important element of employment packages. New recruits will often expect or demand flexible arrangements and potentially go elsewhere if expectations are not met. The report highlights how businesses can be both flexible and productive, such as using models like the '3 Cs' formula, where Concentration (or Contemplation) work is conducted more from home, 'Collaboration' more at the office and 'Communication' work uses a mix of locations."

Sandy Markwick, C-Suite Director at Winmark, commented:

"Members of Winmark's Tax Director and CFO Networks highlighted the complexities of managing hybrid workforces, including the administrative, governance, financial, legal and operational implications that can arise."
