Laundry Startup using Pragmatic Environmentalism to Bring Affordable Detergent Sheets to Everyone

PORTLAND, Maine - March 8, 2023 - PRLog -- New startup in the laundry space Spot Detergent is looking to bring eco-friendly Detergent Sheets into the mainstream.  Their goal is to shift consumers away from plastic-laden jugs of liquid detergent to Detergent Sheets in order to divert plastic from our waste streams.  The company has a radical strategy of Pragmatic Environmentalism to bring about this shift.

Detergent Sheets are a replacement for traditional detergent, as they contain all of the solvents and cleansers of detergent in a tiny sheet.  The sheet is added to the washing machine and then run normally.  Detergent Sheets are lightweight and easy to use, plus has a drastically lower carbon footprint than traditional detergent.

"We know that it's hard to shift consumer shopping behavior," said Reid Edgar, owner of Spot Detergent.  "But at a value price and with approachable, mainstream packaging, we believe that consumers will embrace this new offering."  Spot is using what they call Pragmatic Environmentalism in order to push forward their environmental goals.  The idea behind it is that eco-friendly products should be priced at or below the traditional offering.  Not only that, but they should be targeted at mainstream consumers who typically avoid eco-friendly products because of their premium price.

"For too long eco-friendly products have had this stigma of being expensive, and it's true," Edgar said.  "But if we're going to accomplish our environmental goals and do what we can to avert climate change, we need everyone on board, not just those that care about the environment."  Spot believes that even consumers who typically do not buy "eco" products will buy their Detergent Sheets because of the high quality, low price and mainstream packaging.  "We want eco-friendly products to be the new normal on the shelf.  And in order to get there, we have to look like normal cleaning products."
