Annual Shankar Shad Mushaira on 11th March 2023

CONNAUGHT PLACE, India - March 16, 2023 - PRLog -- Keeping Delhi's very own language relevant and creating a connection for the new generation, the 54th Shankar-Shad Mushaira was held on 11th March 2023 at Modern School Barakhamba Road in New Delhi.
The event was successful in celebrating the art of Urdu poetry with a remarkable display of talent. It was attended by some of the most prominent poets of our time, including Mr. Iqbal Ashhar, Mr. Prasoon Joshi, Mr. Munawwar Rana, Prof. Waseem Barevil, Mr. Sheen Kaaf Nizam, Dr. Gauhar Raza, Dr. Popular Meeruti, Mr. Azhar Iqbal, Mr. Nomaan Shauque, Mr. Khushbir Singh Shaad, Dr. Nusrat Mehdi, Prof. Minu Bakshi, Dr. Poonam Yadav, and SY Qureshi.
The "Shankar Shad Mushaira" has been held on Indian soil for the past 54 years, where poets from both India and abroad join together without any border distinction and mesmerize the audience with their words.
Eminent poet Ashok Vajpayee expressed his admiration for the Urdu language, stating that "Urdu poetry is the beacon of hope, offering dreams and aspirations. It is a unique language, but at the same time, it is in danger. The market of hatred is fuelling its demise, and it is our collective responsibility to save Urdu."

Continuing the tradition of the Shankar-Shad Mushaira, Imteyaz Ahmed recited the lines of Shankar Lal Shankar and Murlidhar Shad, honouring their legacy.

"Ishq ko kamyaab hona tha, Aapko be-naqab hona tha."
Dr. Gauhar Raza, a renowned poet, stated that Urdu is a reflection of cultural society, and culture is performing its duty exceptionally well. He also incorporated the present time in his poetry, saying:
"Ye mat khao vo mat pehno ishq to bilkul karna mat, Deshdroh ki chaap tumhare upar bhi lag jayegi, Ye mat bhulo agli nasle roshan shola hoti hai, Aag kuredoge chingari daaaman tak aaegi."
Munawwar Rana, a prominent poet who often portrays motherly love in his poetry, appeared on stage and received thunderous applause from the audience. He recited his famous Nazm, "Muhajir Nama," with the following lines:
"Dushwar kaam tha khud ko sametna, mai khud ko bandhne me bhi kayi baar toot gaya, ye aangan tha mere ghar ka na jane kitni muddat se, buzurgo ke guzarte hi yaha kamre nikal aaye."
The 54th Shankar Shad Mushaira was a huge success, showcasing the enduring appeal and vitality of Urdu poetry. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all the poets, guests, and sponsors for their support and participation in this year's event.
